This week in our class...
Math: We will finish up Unit 3 this week with the test planned for Thursday, January 9! A study guide will be sent home Monday. Please return this to school by Wednesday so we can go over it together in class. Topics covered this unit include: equivalent fractions, fractions on a number line, comparing fractions and decimals, converting fractions in the 10ths and 100ths to decimals, and representing decimals on a grid.
Reading: In reading, students will be moving through 3 stations throughout the week to review main idea and details, plot, and characterization.
Writing: We will continue to work on our realistic fiction pieces. Students will be creating "scenes" each day for each component of the plot mountain they created in the pre-writing phase. We will focus on how setting and dialogue can move a plot along.
Social Studies: Continuing with our Just Add Water book, students will be learning about the causes and effects of the Chicago Fire.
Monday: PJ Day & DEAR Day- Students are encouraged to bring a blanket, pillow, stuffed animal, and book for a special cozy reading day to go along with PJ Day
Tuesday: Character Day
Wednesday: Crazy Day
Thursday: School Spirit Day or Social Media/Meme Day
Friday: Winter Wonderland
Thursday, January 9th will be my last day before my maternity leave. Dr. Magnuson has found a great candidate that we hope will be able to take over after I leave. We will provide you with more details once things are official. I have had a wonderful semester with our class and will miss all of them greatly! Thank you for trusting me with your children this year :) I hope to be able to come back and visit once the weather warms up a bit!
